I designed this puzzle with all of the under-appreciated root vegetables in mind. (minus the carrot – the carrot always get all of the glory). Anyway…back to the description.. Root vegetables are an important part of our diet and it can be challenging for a child to visualize what they look like when they are growing ‘in the ground’.
This delightful and colorful puzzle features a carrot, turnip, sweet potato, radish, onion, potato and beet. The potato and sweet potato sit under the ‘ground’ and all of the other veggies are showing their tops above the ‘ground’. Each of the veggies (minus the potatoes) are complete with green yarn to create the leaves/stems. I also wanted to show the relative difference in shape, size and color of these 7 root vegetables. The puzzle is perfect for little hands as it is easy to pick up the pieces and fit them into the ‘dirt’.
The entire puzzle is hand cut and stained with various non-toxic paints or natural stain and sealed with a coating of food grade mineral oil. Since each puzzle is hand cut and every piece of wood takes stain differently, variations in size, shape and color are to be expected.
Each finished piece is approximately 11.5″x 4.5″ x 1″
